Exciting Developments: Mijas Advances Coastal Path Connection Between La Cala and Fuengirola
After three years of administrative procedures, Mijas Town Hall has awarded a €4.1 million contract to a joint venture between Sardalla Española S.A. and Herysan 2007 S.L. for the construction of a new section of the Senda Litoral (Coastal Path) connecting La Cala de Mijas and Fuengirola. The project is expected to commence in mid-summer and be completed by the end of the year .
The new section will comprise two sub-sections: one linking La Cala with the El Sheriff beach bar, and another connecting the El Faro restaurant to Fuengirola. An intermediate 2.3-kilometer stretch between El Sheriff and El Faro remains pending tender, awaiting sectoral reports due to its complexity near the beach line. However, pedestrian access is already available in this area, ensuring continuity along the path .
The project includes a three-meter-wide wooden pedestrian walkway, birdwatching points, rest areas, and other amenities, maintaining the aesthetic of the existing Coastal Path section between La Cala and Marbella. Construction will run parallel to the motorway, minimizing disruption to beachgoers and tourists .
This development marks a significant step in enhancing pedestrian and cyclist connectivity along the Costa del Sol, promoting sustainable tourism and offering residents and visitors alike a scenic route between La Cala de Mijas and Fuengirola.
